Chapter 4 - The Radio

The second recording showed darkness.
A flashlight moved through trees.
Jonah’s voice whispered:
“We found the tower.”
Someone behind him said:
“It shouldn’t still have power.”
Then the camera turned.
A rusted communications tower stood above the forest.
Red lights blinked at the top.
Jonah watched himself approach a concrete building beneath it.
A woman in the recording said:
“This place was abandoned in 1987.”
Another answered:
“Then explain that.”
Light glowed beneath the steel door.
The video ended.
Mara looked toward an old radio sitting on the shelf inside the cabin.
Jonah followed her gaze.
“Has that been there all night?”
“Yes.”
“Was it on?”
“No.”
The radio clicked.
Both jumped.
Static.
Then a voice.
“Jonah?”
He went white.
Mara reached toward the power cord.
It wasn’t plugged in.
The voice repeated:
“Jonah, come back.”
He whispered:
“I know that voice.”
“Who?”
“My sister.”
Mara looked at him.
May you like
Jonah’s sister had died eleven years earlier.
