Chapter 12 - Memory One

He remembered Helen opening Door Nine.

Behind it was not another room.

It was an elevator.

Still powered.

They descended.

Hundreds of feet.

Below the mountain lay a chamber larger than the entire station above.

Walls covered with cables.

Old computers.

Tape machines.

And in the center—

a circular structure made of metal rings.

Helen called it an acoustic resonance array.

Built to study extremely low frequencies.

Military scientists believed certain frequencies could influence perception.

But Station Nine discovered something unexpected.

The array didn’t merely transmit.

Sometimes it received.

From where?

Nobody knew.

In 1987, technicians heard voices belonging to people who had died.

Then the voices began predicting events.

Then imitating staff.

Then asking to be released.

Station Nine was sealed.

Jonah opened his eyes.

Mara stared.

“You remember all that?”

“Pieces.”

“What happened after you went underground?”

Jonah whispered:

May you like

“We turned it on.”
