Chapter 10 - The Creature Was Warning Them

They had misunderstood it.
“Don’t.”
“Door.”
“Remember.”
“Correct.”
The creature wasn’t threatening them.
It was trying to communicate.
Jonah moved closer to the jar.
“What are you?”
The creature trembled.
No answer.
“Can you understand me?”
One movement.
Mara whispered:
“Maybe one movement means yes.”
Jonah asked:
“Were you inside me to hurt me?”
No movement.
“Were you protecting me?”
One movement.
Jonah sat back.
The thing he had begged Mara to remove might have been the only reason he survived the station.
Outside, Mara’s mother called again.
“Come home.”
Mara closed her eyes.
The creature began striking the glass.
Again.
Again.
Again.
Jonah suddenly understood.
May you like
“It wants us away from the door.”
