Chapter 30 - True Happiness

Five years later.

On the emerald lawns of the Lake Michigan estate, a four-year-old girl with soft curls and intelligent eyes laughed delightedly as she chased golden butterflies.

I stood beneath the veranda holding a warm cup of tea, watching our daughter play with her father. Richard knelt down, lifting the little princess high into the air as her ringing laughter filled the breeze.

Sunset sunlight painted the rippling lake surface, transforming the entire landscape into the most serene and exquisite masterpiece on earth.

Gone were the freezing winter nights, the humiliating tears, and the terror of abandonment. What remained in the present was fulfillment, love, and the fierce pride of a woman who claimed her own light.

Richard walked over, wrapping an arm around my shoulders and pressing a soft kiss to my hair.

"What are you thinking, Evelyn?" he asked gently.

I leaned my head against his shoulder, smiling as our little girl waved to her mother from across the lawn.

"I was thinking... that winter turned out to be the greatest thing that ever happened to me," I answered, my eyes gleaming with eternal happiness.
