Chapter 18 - White Night in New York

While the boardroom victory solidified our corporate stronghold, the true battle awaited us in New York—the epicenter for the multi-billion-dollar strategic partnership signing with the North American Technology Alliance.

A midnight flight carried Richard and me into JFK Airport amidst a blinding snowstorm. The neon lights of the city that never sleeps reflected off slick limousine windows, framing a scene at once opulent and freezing.

At The Plaza Hotel, venue for the financial summit, electricity crackled through the air. Hundreds of international journalists, press corps, and elite tycoons eagerly awaited the arrival of the young female titan from Chicago.

In my executive dressing suite, I slipped into a floor-length midnight black silk-satin evening gown accented with intricate metallic embroidery. Richard stood close behind, gently draping a luxurious white mink stole over my shoulders.

"New York's financial elite are holding their collective breath to see if the 'Ice Queen' devours the tech alliance tonight," Richard teased, naked pride gleaming in his eyes.

"They won't be disappointed, Richard," I turned, adjusting his lapels. "Because this contract serves as our final stepping stone onto the global stage."

As we stepped out into the grand lobby of The Plaza, the flashbulb bombardment exploded like fireworks. Microphones surged forward in a dense wall.

"Madam Evelyn, how do you respond to market manipulation accusations leveled by your primary competitors on the eve of the summit?" a Wall Street Journal reporter shouted out.

I paused, looking directly into the camera lens. My voice rang out steady, authoritative, and merciless: "In the marketplace, the weak choose to blame rumors, while the strong prove themselves through results. Mercer-Vale did not come here to argue; we came here to shape the future."

That steel-clad response instantly ignited global financial news feeds across the globe before dawn broke.
