Chapter 21 - The Life Sentence

Dominic Vale's retrial commenced on a brilliantly sunny spring day. Yet inside the solemn Cook County courtroom, the atmosphere remained grim and heavy.

Gone was the broken demeanor from the civil suit; this time, as Dominic was led into the courtroom in gray-orange prison garb, his face was consumed by absolute panic. His vacant eyes locked onto the family diary and the direct eyewitness testimony delivered by his own sister Clara from the witness stand.

Marcus Vance stood before the bench, reading out the indictments with resonance: "Your Honor, the defendant Dominic Vale is not only guilty of breach of trust, document forgery, and tax evasion, but on November 14th, the defendant orchestrated the premeditated murder of his father-in-law—then-chairman of the financial corporation—to secure absolute monopoly over the inheritance."

Gasps of absolute shock erupted from the public gallery and the press corps.

Dominic bolted upright, screaming hysterically: "Lies! It's all fabricated! Clara, you ungrateful bitch, you dare betray your own brother?! Evelyn, you're framing me out of revenge!"

Judicial bailiffs forced him back into the defendant's chair, locking his handcuffs tight.

Judge Harrison brought his gavel down repeatedly, his voice commanding absolute authority: "Order! Order in the courtroom! Defendant Dominic Vale, you have the right to remain silent, but everything you say will be used as evidence against you."

I sat upright in the plaintiff's gallery, clad in a sharp black blazer, fixing Dominic with supreme contempt and absolute coldness. He had utilized calculated villainy to steal my father's life, strip away my youth, and betray my trust, believing he could bury it beneath the flawless facade of a successful billionaire.

But justice never sleeps.

Following three hours of intense deliberation, Judge Harrison returned to the bench to deliver the final verdict:

"Based on irrefutable evidence including witness journals, technical automotive forensics, and verified testimony, the court sentences the defendant Dominic Vale to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for intentional homicide for financial gain and grand-scale commercial fraud."

The heavy gavel struck down with a definitive thud. Dominic Vale's life story was officially sealed behind federal prison bars. He slumped over the table, sobbing in absolute, unmitigated despair—a fitting finale for a man who treated human lives and loyalty as disposable commodities.
