Chapter 14 - The Final Verdict

After three days of intense testimony and less than two hours of jury deliberation, the court reconvened for the final verdict.

Judge Robert Vance adjusted his spectacles, looking down from the elevated bench with a severe, unyielding expression. The courtroom held its collective breath.

“On all counts of wire fraud, securities fraud, and intentional embezzlement of employee pension funds,” Judge Vance read clearly, “the jury finds the defendant, Dominic Vale, guilty.”

A muffled gasp rippled through the gallery. Dominic slumped forward in his chair, burying his face in his shackled hands as the reality of a twelve-year federal prison sentence washed over him.

The judge continued, laying down the final terms of restitution. “Furthermore, all remaining personal assets, properties, and offshore holdings registered under the defendant’s name are hereby ordered for complete forfeiture to be distributed among the victims and the primary corporate trust currently held by Evelyn Vale.”

As the bailiffs led Dominic away in handcuffs, he paused for a fraction of a second near the exit, turning his head to look back at the gallery. His eyes met mine for the final time. There was no anger left in his gaze—only a profound, crushing realization of what he had thrown away for a fleeting illusion.

I didn't blink, nor did I look away. I simply watched as the heavy oak doors closed behind him, sealing his fate forever.

Outside the courthouse, a wall of reporters and camera crews surged forward the moment I stepped onto the stone steps, shouting questions over one another.

Mrs. Vale! What are your plans for the company? How does it feel to reclaim your empire?

I stopped, adjusted my sunglasses against the bright winter sun, and looked directly into the lenses of the cameras.

“Vale Enterprises was built on a foundation of resilience and integrity,” I said calmly and clearly into the microphones. “Starting today, we return to those core values. The past is behind us. We are moving forward.”
