Chapter 25 - Wedding of the Century

That September, the wedding of Mercer-Vale Chairman Evelyn and billionaire Richard Mercer became the most anticipated multi-billion-dollar global elite event of the year.

Rather than a conventional luxury hotel ballroom, the ceremony unfolded at the secluded lakeside estate along Lake Michigan, glittering under outdoor crystal chandeliers. Thousands of white roses imported from France lined the grand aisle, creating a fairy-tale paradise brought to life.

I stepped out in a strapless mermaid-cut silk gown embroidered with tens of thousands of delicate micro-diamonds, carrying a pristine white bouquet. My foster father and spiritual protector—Arthur Pendelton—proudly walked me down the floral carpet toward the altar.

Richard waited there, clad in a sharp black tuxedo, his eyes shining with profound love and adoration.

When the officiant prompted our vows, I looked straight into the eyes of the man who had walked me across life's abyss, and spoke clearly:

May you like

"I do. Through storm or calm, I will always walk by your side."

Thunderous applause erupted as fireworks burst across the Chicago night sky, illuminating a romantic autumn horizon. Gone was the image of the woman discarded in a freezing snowy night; today, I stood as a joyous bride, a queen of an empire, and the ultimate keeper of my own happiness.
