Chapter 3 - THE FIRST VIDEO

The first student video reached Principal Porter before school ended.

A ninth grader named Keisha Morgan sent it.

The clip showed Trent crushing the box.

His comments.

His hand on my jacket.

The shove.

Then municipal SUV entering frame.

But Keisha had been recording earlier too.

She caught the part nobody initially noticed.

Trent said:

“You should've handed them over inside.”

My voice:

“They aren't yours.”

Trent:

“They’re everybody’s.”

Then Mason Burke laughed:

“Coach already cleared your numbers.”

Dad replayed that twice.

“What does cleared your numbers mean?”

Mrs. Caldwell knew.

Fundraiser inventory balances.

Someone had been marking boxes as returned even when they were not physically returned.

If students surrendered cookies to Trent, their accounts became zero.

Where did cookies go?

Some got resold.

Where?

Football games.

Parking lots.

Private booster events.

At higher prices.

Cash never entered fundraiser ledger.

We were no longer talking about cookies.

May you like

We were talking about unrecorded money.
