Chapter 29 - THE BOX IN MY CLOSET

I kept one crushed cookie box.

Dad thought weird.

“Evidence copy?”

“No.”

“Then why?”

I didn't know.

Eventually:

“Because it looked small.”

One cardboard box.

$144.

Easy to repay and move on.

But underneath were years of ignored complaints.

Money.

Status.

Adults afraid of bad publicity.

A booster structure nobody audited.

If Dad had simply made Trent buy replacement boxes and demanded apology, everyone might have gone home satisfied.

Problem would remain.

Sometimes people rush to resolve visible damage because invisible cause is expensive.

The box reminded me to ask second question.

Why did Trent think he could take it?

That question changed Ridgeway.
