Chapter 20 - THE HEARING

My disciplinary statement was recorded privately.
I did not testify before packed auditorium.
Good.
I described gate.
Cookies.
Trent’s words.
Shove.
No exaggeration.
Trent’s attorney asked whether I disliked him before incident.
“Yes.”
Why?
“He'd taken other kids’ stuff.”
Did I provoke him?
“I told him no.”
That was apparently considered provocation.
I kept answering.
At end board member asked:
“What do you want to happen to Trent?”
I surprised myself.
“I don't know.”
“You don't want punishment?”
“I want adults to figure it out.”
I was thirteen.
