Chapter 4 - How Jason Found Her

Jason had not accidentally met Eleanor.

The charity gala guest list proved it.

He had been added forty-eight hours before the event.

Sponsor authorization:

Charles Whitmore — COO, Whitmore Hotels

Grace stared at the record.

“That could mean nothing.”

Eleanor knew.

Charles invited hundreds of business contacts every year.

Still.

She asked for more.

Internal calendar logs showed Charles met Jason twice before the gala.

Once at a private club.

Once at a Whitmore hotel bar.

No business purpose documented.

Detective Morgan obtained exterior surveillance.

Two men together.

Charles.

Jason.

Three weeks before Jason first “noticed” Eleanor across the ballroom.

Eleanor felt physically cold.

“Maybe he was pitching something.”

Grace did not answer.

They both wanted the innocent explanation.

Leah found something else.

Jason Reed’s public biography was thin.

Marketing consultant.

Hospitality investor.

Independent strategist.

But no substantial firm.

No major clients.

No property matching the lifestyle he displayed.

His expensive apartment was leased through a company named Bridgewell Consulting.

Bridgewell received $240,000 eight months earlier from:

CWH Advisory LLC

Charles William Whitmore.

Eleanor stared at the transfer.

Grace whispered:

“Oh, Eleanor.”

The betrayal changed shape.

Jason might not have targeted her alone.

He may have been sent.
