Chapter 15 - The Night That Never Happened

Eleanor asked Jason’s hotel for records from the night she believed changed everything.
Security footage showed Jason escorting her upstairs.
She was intoxicated.
At 11:42 p.m., he ordered coffee and food.
At 12:18, hallway video showed him leaving the room for nearly forty minutes.
Nothing physical had happened.
Eleanor had suspected that after learning his pattern.
Still, confirmation stunned her.
For months she believed she had crossed a boundary she thought age had permanently closed.
Jason let her believe it because the emotional effect was useful.
Eleanor cried alone after Grace left.
Not because she wished something intimate had happened.
Because Jason had manipulated her own memory to manufacture closeness.
The next morning, she told Leah:
“Add it.”
“To what?”
“My statement.”
“It may not be criminal by itself.”
“I know.”
“I want the pattern documented.”
For the first time, Eleanor understood that deception did not need to steal money immediately.
May you like
Sometimes it stole confidence in your own memory first.
