Chapter 24 - The Fortune Jason Never Understood

News outlets reported Eleanor was worth $640 million.
Some said $800 million.
Others more than a billion.
Eleanor laughed.
“Everyone is wrong.”
Grace asked:
“Higher or lower?”
“That’s none of your business.”
“It is literally my business.”
The point remained.
Jason had risked everything for a number he never truly knew.
Most of Eleanor’s wealth was illiquid.
Governed.
Shared with foundations.
Bound by trusts.
Some property carried debt.
Some companies had minority partners.
Public perception turned “rich” into “cash waiting in a vault.”
Jason believed marriage gave him a key.
It never did.
Money had attracted him.
