Chapter 21 - Jason’s Plea Offer

Prosecutors offered Jason no easy exit.
Attempted murder carried serious exposure.
Financial fraud added more.
Jason offered full cooperation against Charles in exchange for a reduced sentencing recommendation.
Eleanor was consulted.
Not given control.
She respected that.
“This isn’t my private revenge.”
The prosecutor asked whether she wanted to submit her views.
“Yes.”
She wrote:
Cooperation should matter if it reveals truth. It should not transform planning my death into a minor mistake.
Jason eventually accepted a plea to attempted murder and major fraud-related counts.
He admitted the push intentionally.
Admitted he expected Eleanor’s death.
Admitted document manipulation.
Admitted Charles provided financial information and access.
In court he looked at Eleanor.
She did not look away.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
Eleanor answered only when the judge invited her.
“You are sorry you failed.”
Jason’s face changed.
She continued:
“I hope someday you become sorry for what you chose.”
May you like
That distinction followed him out of the courtroom.
