Chapter 25 - Who Owns the House?

Margaret had every legal right to challenge William’s ownership.

Instead she proposed something nobody expected.

She wanted none of the house.

“I don’t want Harold’s battlefield.”

William refused to accept the gift.

So attorneys negotiated.

Margaret’s ownership interest was formally recognized.

William compensated her based on the original property value, not the new multimillion-dollar development offer.

Then Margaret placed part of the settlement into trusts for Lily and Eva.

Why Eva?

Margaret smiled.

“Because she fed someone when every adult was busy protecting themselves.”

William tried to object.

Margaret refused.

“This family has spent generations rewarding silence.”

She looked at Eva.

“I’d like to reward courage once.”
