Lily had preserved a copy of Margaret’s testimony.
Investigators played it.
A woman’s voice spoke calmly.
“My name is Margaret Vale.”

“If this recording is being heard, my brother Harold has likely continued telling people I disappeared voluntarily.”
William leaned closer.
Margaret explained that Harold and Thomas had forged property transfers.
When she confronted them, they confined her temporarily beneath the farmhouse.
Claire secretly brought her food.
That was why her name appeared in the wall inscription.
Eventually Margaret escaped through an old coal chute.
She never returned.
Why not?
Because Harold threatened their mother.
Margaret stayed hidden while gathering evidence.
Then something surprising happened.
She discovered Harold was not the mastermind.
Their mother, Evelyn Vale, had begun the original fraud.
