Miriam arranged a meeting with Nathan Cross under controlled circumstances.

Cross looked genuinely concerned.
“I have never represented Mrs. Hale.”
Miriam stared at him.

Cross sighed.
“I’ve used him as an expert.”
“Recently?”
“No.”
I placed a copy of the conservatorship petition on the table.
Cross read it.
Then his expression changed.
“This form is old.”
“How old?”
“Three years.”
“Why does that matter?”
“My firm changed templates after our merger.”
Dr. Shah’s forged record also used an outdated template.
Someone wasn’t obtaining these documents through current professional channels.
They were assembling them from archived material.
Cross looked at the bottom of the page.
