Chapter 10 - The Archive Company

Three years earlier, Nathan Cross’s firm had outsourced legal document archiving to a company called Meridian Records Solutions.
My stomach tightened at the name.
No relation to Hale Meridian.
But the company had recently gone bankrupt.
Its former operations director was named Lucas Vane.
I knew him.
He was Vanessa’s older brother.
Vanessa had told me Lucas worked in logistics.
Technically, she hadn’t lied.
Document logistics.
Medical records.
Legal templates.
Confidential archives.
Suddenly the pieces aligned.
Lucas could have supplied old legal forms.
Old hospital forms.
Examples of expert declarations.
Vanessa supplied my genuine medical records.
Together they could construct an entire false narrative.
But why?
Money was obvious.
Yet something still bothered me.
Vanessa already had access to wealth.
Our prenuptial agreement guaranteed her millions if we divorced.
Why risk prison?
Then Miriam found the answer.
Vanessa had debts.
Not ordinary debts.
Nearly $11 million.
Private investments.
Luxury real estate.
Loans hidden through shell companies.
And one creditor stood above all the others.
Nolan Hale.
May you like
My brother.
