Chapter 19 - The $11 Million

The remaining mystery was the money.
Vanessa’s hidden debt wasn’t entirely debt.
Some loans were fake.
They were transfers.
She had moved approximately $6.3 million through shell companies over two years.
Money originating from Hale Meridian-linked family accounts.
She hadn’t merely planned future control.
She had already been stealing.
The conservatorship scheme served two purposes.
First, gain temporary power during the acquisition.
Second, prevent me from discovering previous transfers by framing any accusations I made as paranoia caused by medical instability.
That was the most sophisticated part of her plan.
If I discovered the theft after she had created a record of cognitive decline, my own investigation could become evidence against me.
“He’s confused.”
“He’s obsessed with finances.”
“He accuses his wife.”
“He believes people are stealing.”
Every truthful accusation could have been reframed as a symptom.
I finally understood why the forged medical records emphasized judgment and anxiety rather than physical weakness.
She didn’t need me bedridden.
May you like
She needed me disbelieved.
