Chapter 24 - The Person Vanessa Feared
Everyone assumed Vanessa controlled Lucas.
But the recovered messages showed someone Vanessa herself feared.
Initials:
R.V.
Payments went to an offshore consultancy.
Threatening messages referenced deadlines.
For two days investigators assumed R.V. was another accomplice.
Then Lucas identified him.
Richard Voss.
Vanessa’s former business partner.
Years before marrying me, Vanessa and Voss had run a luxury investment fund.
It collapsed.
Several investors alleged money had disappeared.
No charges were filed.
But Vanessa owed Voss millions from a private settlement.
Voss had been pressuring her.
This explained the urgency.
But it did not excuse anything.
Vanessa had not invented the scheme because Voss ordered her to abuse Maya or forge documents.
She created the plan because she needed money and power.
Voss simply made the clock tick faster.
Investigators later found that even he didn’t know about the conservatorship scheme.
