Chapter 18 - Nolan’s Confession

Nolan admitted everything he had actually done.
Vanessa approached him eight months earlier.
She told him I planned to restructure Hale Meridian after the Singapore acquisition and remove him from executive leadership.
She showed him fabricated drafts.
Nolan believed them.
He helped Vanessa understand board succession rules.
He lent her money.
He introduced her to one corporate consultant.
But when she suggested using my cardiac history to trigger temporary incapacity provisions, Nolan refused.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I’d already betrayed you.”
He stared at the floor.
“And because she had emails showing I helped her.”
“Blackmail.”
“Yes.”
“Did you forge anything?”
“No.”
“Did you meet Lucas?”
“Once.”
“Did he know the plan?”
“He thought Vanessa wanted leverage in a divorce.”
That matched Lucas’s messages.
Vanessa had compartmentalized everyone.
Nolan knew one piece.
Lucas another.
Dr. Rainer had been researched but apparently never formally retained.
Nathan Cross’s old documents were copied without his involvement.
Vanessa had created the appearance of a professional network that mostly didn’t exist.
That was why the papers looked credible.

And why small details were outdated.
