Chapter 6 - Emma’s Inheritance

Emma had never cared much about her family fortune.
Her grandfather founded Ellison Biomedical.
Emma inherited shares through a trust.
I knew she had money.
I had no idea how much.
After her supposed death, those shares transferred according to her estate plan.
A portion went to charity.
A portion went to me.
But most were supposed to pass to any surviving biological child.
No child had been declared.
So control shifted temporarily to an estate trustee.
Richard Whitmore.
I stared at Emma.
“My uncle became trustee?”
“You signed papers.”
“I signed probate documents Richard put in front of me after the funeral.”
I barely remembered them.
I had been barely functioning.
Emma nodded.
“That was what they needed.”
If Lily had been acknowledged as Emma’s surviving child, Richard could never have exercised unrestricted temporary control over those assets.
“How much?”
Emma hesitated.
Nora answered.
“At current valuation?”
She looked directly at me.
“Approximately eighty-six million dollars.”
The engagement dinner suddenly looked different.
This wasn’t only about Victoria wanting me.

Someone had hidden my wife and daughter while controlling a fortune.
