Chapter 29 - Damon and Emma

Everyone expected Emma and me to immediately become husband and wife again.
Life was not that simple.
Legally, our situation was complicated.
Emotionally, even more so.
We had lost five years.
We had become different people.
Emma needed independence.
I needed to learn who she had become rather than trying to recover the woman from my memories.
So we didn’t make dramatic promises.
We started with breakfast.
Then walks.
Then conversations after Lily slept.
Some conversations hurt.
Others made us laugh.
One evening Emma said:
“I don’t want us to rebuild the old marriage.”
I swallowed.
“Okay.”
“I want to know whether we can build something new.”
That was enough.
Not a fairy-tale ending.
Something better.
May you like
A choice made with truth.
