Chapter 16 - Victoria Was Not the Beginning

Emma explained something I hadn’t understood.
Victoria didn’t start the scheme.
Richard did.
But Victoria became indispensable.
When Emma regained enough memory to demand contact with me, Richard needed someone she trusted.
Victoria volunteered.
At first she told Emma the separation would last days.
Then weeks.
Then she started lying deliberately.
She claimed I had filed for divorce.
That I had moved on.
That I wanted no involvement with the baby.
“Why did you believe her?”
Emma looked hurt.
“I had just survived an accident. I could barely walk unassisted. My memory came and went. Every person around me repeated the same story.”
That was how lies became reality.
Not because they were convincing once.
May you like
Because they were repeated by everyone a vulnerable person had access to.
