Chapter 17 - Tasha’s Case

Helen learned why Tasha was in prison.

Not gossip.

Tasha told her.

At thirty-one, Tasha worked security at a nightclub.

She became involved with a theft crew moving stolen electronics.

When another participant tried leaving, Tasha assaulted her during an argument.

The victim survived without lasting serious injury, but the act was real.

Tasha pleaded guilty.

“I wasn’t framed,” she said.

Helen nodded.

“I did it.”

That distinction mattered to Tasha.

Her mother was innocent.

She wasn’t.

She refused to steal Denise’s story to soften her own.

Helen respected her for that.
