Chapter 28 - Liam Turns Thirteen

Thirteen.

Teenager.

Liam came to my kitchen after school.

“Mom says you’re updating some legal papers.”

“Your mother talks too much.”

“What happens to your house when you die?”

Direct as ever.

“It is sold unless circumstances change.”

“Do I get it?”

“No.”

He looked offended.

“Dad?”

“No.”

“Who?”

“The trust will decide according to my plan.”

“That sounds boring.”

“It is.”

He opened the refrigerator.

“Can I have pie?”

“Yes.”

“That’s better.”

No obsession.

No counting inheritance.

He asked because teenagers are curious.

Then moved on.

We had broken something unhealthy.

Not perfectly.

Enough.
