Chapter 25 - The Water Glass

On Liam’s twelfth birthday, we ate dinner at a small Italian restaurant.
No catered house party.
No blue balloons.
Just family.
Halfway through dinner, Liam reached for his water.
His elbow caught mine.
My glass tipped.
Water spread across the table.
Everyone froze.
For one ridiculous second, the old birthday returned.
Liam’s eyes widened.
Then:
“Oh my God. Grandma, I’m sorry.”
He grabbed napkins.
Daniel stood to help.
Emily moved the plates.
Nobody laughed at me.
Nobody blamed me.
Nobody turned it into humiliation.
I started laughing.
Liam stared.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“You’re being weird.”
“Yes.”
Daniel understood first.
His face softened.
That tiny accident told us more than any family meeting.
May you like
The same object.
Different family.
