Chapter 7 - MALCOLM CARTER

Malcolm lived in Jacksonville.
Seventy-nine.
Elegant.
Expensive house.
Very different life from Isaiah.
Investigators did not drag him dramatically to Atlanta.
They sent legal notices.
He hired counsel.
Then came voluntarily.
Malcolm admitted claiming to represent the Carter estate.
He denied knowing Isaiah was alive.
Naomi laughed when told.
“He hasn't spoken to Grandpa in forty years, so maybe.”
But documents showed something else.
Three years earlier Malcolm hired an investigator.
That investigator found Isaiah's Atlanta address.
So Malcolm knew.
Why pretend otherwise?
Money.
Helen's redevelopment plan included a “heritage consent fee” of $1.8 million to Mercer Heritage Solutions.
If the fund transfer happened, Malcolm got paid.
Helen's team got twelve million toward tower.
Everyone benefited.
Except fund's real purpose.
Silas was furious.
But Naomi asked the better question.
“Why did Helen use him?”
Because Malcolm approached her.
He claimed Silas's fund was built on stolen Carter family legacy.
He threatened litigation.
Helen wanted Bellmont Cultural Tower approved quickly.
So she negotiated.
Instead of telling Silas.
Instead of locating Isaiah.
She chose the path that protected her project.
Again:
Convenience over verification.
May you like
The same disease appearing across generations.
