Chapter 10 - THE FUND BELONGS TO ITS PURPOSE

Silas wanted to give Isaiah control of the thirty-seven-million-dollar fund.
Isaiah refused.
“Why?”
“Because you created it for community work.”
“It has your name.”
“Bad naming decision.”
Naomi laughed.
Isaiah said:
“If I take control now because of sentiment, I'm doing what Helen did.”
Important.
The fund did not belong to Isaiah personally.
It had a mission.
Independent board should govern.
Silas agreed.
They commissioned external review.
For forty-one years, most grants had been legitimate.
The threatened twelve-million transfer was the major recent concern.
Good.
Not every institution was rotten.
