Chapter 6 - HELEN’S DEFENSE

Helen went public first.
Her statement:
I regret the physical confrontation at the Bellmont gala. However, confidential documents were deliberately delivered to the wrong party by a staff member, creating a misleading impression about a charitable transaction that had been reviewed by counsel.
Naomi stared at her phone.
“Staff member.”
No name.
Good.
Then:
The proposed transfer from the Isaiah Carter fund was based on authorization provided by a Carter family representative.
Silas's legal team requested the authorization.
It arrived.
Signed:
Malcolm Carter, executor of the Estate of Isaiah Carter.
Attached death certificate.
Naomi's blood ran cold.
Isaiah Carter.
Date of death:
2009.
Location:
Jacksonville, Florida.
Her grandfather sat beside her.
Very alive.
He read his own death certificate.
“Well.”
Naomi stared.
“You're taking this better than me.”
“I've had worse paperwork.”
Forgery?
Mistaken identity?
Another Isaiah Carter?
Investigation began.
The certificate number was real.
But the deceased man was Isaiah B. Carter, born 1938.
Naomi's grandfather was Isaiah James Carter, born 1949.
Someone had used a real dead man's record and altered summary documents to match.
Malcolm's authorization depended on fraud.
Did Helen know?
That became central.
She insisted no.
Her attorney said outside consultants verified.
Which consultants?
Mercer Heritage Solutions.
A private asset-recovery firm.
Owner:
Malcolm Carter.
Isaiah whispered:
“That old fool is still alive.”
Brother against brother.
May you like
History reopened.
