Chapter 6 - The Rejected Load

Ben Castillo met investigators the next morning.

He brought photographs.

Yesterday’s rejected sandwich pallets.

Same lot code underneath labels.

He had tagged:

DO NOT DISTRIBUTE — TEMPERATURE ABUSE

His photographs showed red disposal stickers.

Those stickers were gone at Oakridge.

Who removed them?

BlueLine warehouse supervisor claimed Harvest Ridge pickup crew.

Harvest Ridge blamed subcontractor.

Then surveillance video surfaced.

A Harvest Ridge manager named Kevin Doyle entered BlueLine dock at 6:14 a.m.

He spoke to supervisor.

Rejected pallets moved to another bay.

At 7:02, relabeling began.

At 8:35, truck left.

Oakridge at 10:18.

The chain was visible.

But why take such risk over forty sandwiches?

Because not forty.

Truck delivered to four schools.

Oakridge was final stop.

More than 600 sandwiches.

Other schools had already served lunch.

Parents panicked.

Health department contacted families.

Most children remained fine.

A small number reported stomach symptoms and were medically evaluated.

No severe outcomes.

That mattered.
