Chapter 10 - The PTA Accounts

Vanessa was Oakridge PTA vice president.

She began reviewing her own records.

Harvest Ridge had catered three PTA events.

Invoices looked inflated.

A spring banquet billed $9,800.

PTA paid $6,200.

Who paid difference?

Invoice showed “district community partnership credit.”

But district ledger showed payment of full $9,800 too.

Double billing.

Vanessa brought records to investigators.

She had once cared mostly about decorations and donors.

Now she was angry.

Maybe guilt turned useful.

She told me:

“I used to think cafeteria complaints were people being dramatic.”

“Why?”

“Because I never had to worry food wouldn't be safe.”

Privilege spoken plainly.

Good.
