Chapter 25 - I Get My Job Back

Technically I never lost job.
District had placed me on paid leave during investigation.
But returning felt different.
First morning cafeteria smelled like sanitizer and toast.
Maria hugged me.
“Don't cry.”
“You’re crying.”
“Shut up.”
New receiving system required two employees for temperature exceptions.
No district remote override without visible audit trail.
All deliveries logged with independent thermometer photo.
I hated how many steps.
Loved it too.
A sixth grader asked why lunch took longer.
I said:
“Because we check.”
He shrugged.
Good.
