Chapter 26 - Vanessa and the Tray

Vanessa visited cafeteria months later for oversight committee orientation.
She stopped when she saw aluminum trays.
I noticed.
“So do I.”
She looked at me.
“I still see that sandwich.”
“Me too.”
“I wish I could undo what I did.”
“You can't.”
“I know.”
Then:
“What can I do?”
“Don't assume the person in front of you is your enemy because you're scared.”
She nodded.
“Anything else?”
“Read the reports.”
She laughed softly.
“I do now.”
She had become annoying about reports.
