Chapter 9 - ADRIAN’S SECRET COMPANY

Forensic auditors uncovered Adrian's leverage.
He had created a private company called Aster Ridge six years earlier.
Whitmore Industries sold distressed assets to Aster at unusually low prices.
Adrian later resold.
Profit:
$8.7 million.
Was this theft?
Potential self-dealing.
Adrian claimed Richard instructed him, saying it was tax strategy.
He benefited personally.
That gave Richard control.
When Adrian discovered hidden accounts, Richard showed him Aster evidence.
“If I go down, you go first.”
Adrian believed.
Then found Emily.
Now blackmail became complete.
Daniel asked:
“Why didn't you simply confess?”
Adrian stared.
“Because I would've lost everything.”
“You lost it anyway.”
“Not then.”
That was difference.
Human beings often trade tomorrow's disaster for today's comfort.
Adrian began cooperating with investigators.
He surrendered old laptops.
Passwords.
Documents.
In return, prosecutors made no promises.
Good.
He should not become hero because he stopped hiding after wall opened.
Adrian accepted.
“I’m not asking anyone to call me good.”
Daniel said:
“Then do good things without needing title.”
Their relationship remained fractured.

But for first time truthful.
