Chapter 18 - GEORGE BENNETT’S FALL

George Bennett resigned law firm.
State bar opened investigation.
Federal prosecutors examined false ownership filings.
Claire testified before grand jury.
That broke her.
Daniel waited outside.
When she emerged, she said:
“I told truth.”
“Good.”
“I may have helped prosecute my father.”
“You answered questions.”
She nodded.
Words matter.
She had not chosen prosecution.
She chose accuracy.
George later admitted he falsified corporate ownership records on Richard’s instructions because Richard claimed temporary confidentiality needed for acquisition.
When realized fraud, he stayed quiet to protect license and firm.
Again trajectory.
Small compromise.
Larger.
Then impossible secret.
Except always possible to tell truth.

May you like
