Chapter 19 - Grant Pleads

Grant eventually entered a negotiated plea to specific financial and document-related charges.
The evidence was strong.
Cooperation allowed recovery of company funds.
Nolan’s role became clearer.
Peter testified.
Grant admitted directing the false deed effort.
He admitted asking Peter to manipulate estate records.
He admitted receiving undisclosed money linked to vendors.
He did not admit things he had not done.
He had not caused Daniel’s death.
He had not threatened Clara physically.
He had not fabricated the marriage dispute from nothing; he had exploited genuine surprise.
Accuracy remained important.
The court imposed incarceration followed by supervised release and restitution obligations.
Not life.
Not a theatrical sentence.
Years measured in consequences.
Evelyn attended sentencing.
Clara did not.
Lily went to school.
Again.
Childhood before spectacle.
Grant addressed the court.
“I spent years believing my brother’s success meant there was less room for me.”
He paused.
“That belief became permission.”
No one moved.
“I kept telling myself I was protecting the family company.”
He looked down.
“I was protecting myself from being the brother who failed.”
The judge listened.
Grant continued.
“Daniel tried to stop me before law enforcement had to.”
His voice broke.
May you like
“I hated him for it.”
That was enough.
