Chapter 27 - Emily Lets Go of One Fear

Emily had spent a year monitoring everything.
Every breath.
Every activity.
Every bag Caleb packed.
Trauma had made vigilance feel responsible.
Caleb eventually noticed.
“Mom, I can go to the bathroom alone.”
She laughed.
Then cried later.
Her therapist pointed out something difficult.
Grant’s recklessness had pushed Emily toward the opposite extreme.
Protection could become control too.
So on field day, Emily sat in the bleachers.
She did not follow Caleb to every station.
She trusted Sarah.
Trusted the updated system.
Trusted Caleb to report symptoms.
That was hard.
But different from neglect.
Trust with safeguards.
May you like
Not blind trust.
