Chapter 21 - The Custody Hearing

Family court reviewed the temporary custody arrangement four months after field day.
Emily did not ask to terminate Grant’s parental rights.
She asked for safeguards.
Medical decision-making authority temporarily assigned to her.
Supervised athletic participation.
Grant required to follow specialist recommendations.
No Victor involvement in medical or sports decisions.
Parenting therapy.
Grant’s attorney accepted most terms.
The judge asked him:
“Do you understand why the court is concerned?”
“Yes.”
“Explain.”
Grant looked toward Caleb’s guardian ad litem.
“Because I treated my own judgment as more important than medical advice, and my son learned he could not safely tell me when he was afraid.”
The judge nodded.
That mattered more than polished remorse.
Grant received gradually increasing parenting time conditioned on compliance.
Emily remained cautious.
Caleb remained uncertain.
Nobody forced reconciliation.
