Chapter 20 - What Grant Lost

The TitanSport acquisition never resumed.
Lawson Performance’s valuation dropped sharply.
Grant lost tens of millions on paper.
Victor called it proof that apology was expensive.
Grant began to think the opposite.
Dishonesty had been expensive.
The bill simply arrived late.
Grant sold two company divisions and restructured.
He stepped down as CEO temporarily while an independent executive took over.
For the first time since college, Grant had nowhere important to be at six in the morning.
He hated it.
Then Caleb asked if he wanted to visit the planetarium.
Grant almost checked his calendar.
Stopped.
“Yeah.”
At the planetarium, Caleb talked through half the presentation.
Grant listened.
Afterward Caleb asked:
“Do you still want me to do track?”
Grant chose his answer carefully.
“I want you to do things you enjoy and that your doctors say are safe.”
“What if I’m slow?”
“Then you’re slow.”
Caleb stared.
“Grandpa says being slow means you didn’t train.”
Grant smiled sadly.
“Grandpa was wrong about some things.”
“A lot?”
“A lot.”
Caleb nodded.
“Okay.”
It was not forgiveness.
But it was conversation.
May you like
That was progress.
