Chapter 11 - Numbers Do Not Blush

The forensic accountant, Nadia Brooks, quickly found evidence that pushed suspicion toward proof. Questionable expense coding aligned with dates from Emily’s messages. Hotels, dinners, and travel billed to company accounts overlapped with affair activity. Worse, a shell entity called Turner Strategic Interiors had received significant payments despite offering no clear documented deliverables.

James confronted Emily again about whether she knew of any shell structures. She did not. He believed her, and that belief irritated him because it reminded him he still knew something about her honesty even in the wreckage.

By the end of the day, one fact was unavoidable: Ryan’s betrayals shared a common quality. He treated secrecy not as burden but as an operating environment. That realization would soon matter even more than the money.
