Chapter 23 - Maria’s Truth

At dinner Maria told them Robert nearly returned in 2015.
Bought bus ticket.
Packed.
Then had panic attack.
“He said Michael would hit him.”
Michael looked away.
Sarah touched hand.
Maria continued:
“He was ashamed that fear of his son stopped him.”
Michael said:
“He was probably right.”
Sarah replied:
“You wouldn’t have killed him.”
“No.”
“Maybe hit?”
Michael thought of Thomas.
“Yes.”
That mattered.
His own anger had become exactly thing Robert imagined.
Not cause of twenty years.
But part of inherited pattern.
Michael began anger-management therapy.
Not because dangerous generally.
Because one public assault was enough evidence to examine.
He told Sarah.
She smiled.
May you like
“Good.”
No mockery.
