Chapter 19 - Elaine’s Choice

Among bank files they found Elaine’s instructions.
She knew envelope existed but not contents.
She wrote:
Do not open while Charles Vale lives. I will not risk children.
Robert’s fear became hers.
After she died, instruction passed.
Michael asked Sarah:
“Was she wrong?”
Sarah said:
“Yes.”
Then:
“I understand.”
Both.
Elaine could have opened sooner.
Maybe exposed truth.
Maybe risked legal conflict.
She chose silence.
Family pattern reached mother too.
Not because women were passive.
Because fear can teach everyone same lesson.

Michael stopped idealizing her.
Loved her more accurately.
