Chapter 6 - Victor Hears the Recording
Victor listened to Sophia's video under supervision.
His face did not move until she said:
“My father does not know everything.”
Then he closed eyes.
Daniel knew more than Victor.
For three years Victor had told anyone who listened:
“My daughter would have come to me if she feared something.”
She had tried.
He had told her stop digging.
Victor whispered:
“I sent her away.”
Agent Chen replied:
“You had an argument.”
“No.”
Victor looked up.
“I made my house unsafe for truth.”
That was closer.
Then Sophia's video:
“Marcus is not involved.”
Victor’s shoulders dropped.
Three years of hatred had nowhere to go.
He asked to speak Marcus.
Denied under no-contact order.
He wrote a letter through attorneys.
Marcus did not read immediately.
He placed unopened on table.
He wasn't ready to manage Victor’s remorse.
