Sophia told full story.
After Red Mesa, Daniel confronted.
She left.
Owen followed.
On mountain road, her car became difficult to control due prior interference.
She survived crash, escaped vehicle, hid.
Owen arrived.
She heard him searching.
She followed trail.
By dawn she reached ranger station.
Used radio but feared channels monitored.
Later Lena, who had tracked her via prearranged emergency code? Need plausible: Sophia had sent a one-word message "Solomon" from hidden phone before signal died. Lena understood and found her near a rendezvous.
They fled.
Sophia entered federal protection after giving documents.
Why not expose immediately?
Evidence implicated large financial network and a state official taking payments from Horizon.
One local detective on original case received money from Owen. That explained missing Lena email and focus on Marcus.
The case expanded.
Sophia became witness.
Secrecy prolonged.
She regretted what it did Marcus.
But leaving protection risked everyone.
Marcus listened.
Understanding did not erase hurt.
“Were you ever going to come back?”
“Yes.”
“When?”
“I kept saying after next indictment.”
“Three years.”
