By morning the photograph had spread through school.
No caption naming Daniel.
It didn't need one.
Students found old conservatory archives.
Social media did the rest.
Elias Reed's dad and Harrison were college singing partners.

Nepotism audition?

Maybe Chloe was robbed first.
Elias walked into school and heard whispers.
Three weeks.
That was all it had taken.
Mr. Harrison called him into office.
Daniel joined by video only because Elias agreed.
Dr. Foster sat nearby.
Mr. Harrison looked embarrassed.
“I should have recognized your last name.”
Elias asked:
“Did you recognize my voice?”
“No.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
Daniel laughed softly through screen.
“Andrew, you could barely recognize my voice when we were roommates.”
Harrison smiled despite tension.
True.
Daniel's voice had changed after hearing loss and years away from singing.
Dr. Foster asked:
“Did you know Elias was transferring to Westbridge?”
“No.”
“Daniel?”
“I knew the district, not choir director.”
Records supported.
Transfer placement happened through housing boundary.
No special request.
The guest judge did not know Elias.
Mrs. Patel did not know Daniel.
Three independent scores ranked Elias first.
The nepotism story weakened.
But Chloe now had something useful.
She posted:
Students deserve transparency.
No direct accusation.
Smart.
Then:
No captain should be punished for questioning a process with hidden personal connections.
Elias stared at the post.
She had gone from paint-throwing bully to whistleblower in less than twelve hours.
Public memory moves fast.
But Trevor's video still existed.
And system logs still pointed to Chloe's account.
Unless someone else used it.
Madison.
Mr. Harrison suspended Chloe from captain duties pending investigation.
Not choir membership yet.
Chloe called it retaliation.
Her mother got involved.

School board donor.
Attorney.
And much more dangerous than Chloe.
