Chapter 28 - The Man Julian Became

Julian was thirty-two.

He managed regional logistics compliance.

No military rank.

No defense dynasty role.

His father, older, lived quietly.

Elise remained close.

Julian had rebuilt relationship with both separately.

At work, a senior executive’s son made shipping error and manager suggested bury.

Julian froze.

Old pattern.

He said:

“No.”

The error was minor.

Documented.

Corrected.

No firing.

The executive son kept job after retraining.

Julian saw alternate childhood he might have had.

Consequence without destruction.

He called Victor.

“Today I wrote up owner’s son.”

Victor laughed.

“How’d that feel?”

“Terrible.”

“Did company survive?”

“Yes.”

“Boy?”

“Yes.”

Victor went quiet.

Then:

“I wish I had known that.”

Julian:

“You did.”

Victor accepted.

“Yes.”

That was maturity.

Then Julian taught his own team:

“A record is not punishment.”

“It is memory.”

He did not cite himself every time.

Then a colleague asked why he left military.

He told truth briefly.

No headline hiding.

Some judged.

Fine.

Then Julian passed Blackridge on trip.

Did not stop.
