Chapter 28 - Brother, Not Marshal

I visited St. Jude’s again during Leo’s junior year.
No badge visible.
It was still on me, because I had come from work.
But under my jacket.
No one needed it.
We bought coffee.
I carried both.
Leo laughed.
“Trauma exposure?”
“What?”
“You dropped them last time.”
“Those coffees died heroes.”
He groaned.
We crossed the quad.
I noticed exits automatically.
People automatically.
Hands.
Old habits.
Then I forced myself to look at something else.
Students playing Frisbee.
Two professors arguing about parking.
A girl asleep beneath a tree.
Leo walking beside me.
Not a protectee.
May you like
My brother.
That correction might be lifelong.
