Chapter 25 - The Camera Comes Down

Eleven years after installation, cafeteria renovated.
New ceiling.
New registers.
The original camera came down.

“Want it?”
“No.”
He laughed.
“Thought you’d frame.”
“Absolutely not.”
District electronics recycling.
Evidence archives long handled.
No need object.
Students who knew legend wanted auction.
No.
A camera is tool, not trophy.
New cameras installed according to updated policy.
Transparent.
Different.
I watched workers patch old hole.
For moment felt strange.

Then lunch bell rang.
Forty students rushed.
“Mrs. Miller!”
“Line!”
“Pizza!”
“Vegetarian!”
“Milk spilled!”
No time nostalgia.
May you like
Perfect.
